No prior medical or scientific background is required — the programme starts from fundamentals. What matters is that the student has a genuine interest in and curiosity about medicine or life sciences. The curriculum is designed for high school level, and professors explain pharmacology and physiology concepts in accessible terms. A basic foundation in science subjects (e.g. biology or chemistry) will help, but is not a strict requirement.
The remote English interview is approximately 15–20 minutes and primarily assesses oral fluency and communication ability — not academic knowledge. The interviewer will ask about the student's interests, learning goals, and views on medicine or science. We recommend that students practise expressing their thoughts in English and prepare a brief explanation of their interest in pharmacy. Sky Lantern can provide interview preparation advice and mock interview practice beforehand to help build confidence.
Students stay in University of Toronto St. George Campus (UTSG) student residences, sharing with IYP participants from around the world. Residences have 24-hour security and access control, with IYP Resident Advisors (RAs) living on the same floor and responsible for day-to-day supervision. The fee includes three meals daily, airport transfers, and all extracurricular activity transportation.
Very much so, especially for students aiming to apply to medicine, pharmacy, life sciences, or related STEM programmes. The University of Toronto Faculty of Pharmacy certificate of attendance is highly recognisable in global applications and can be used in personal statements to demonstrate early exploration and academic motivation in the target field.
We will help confirm available spaces, arrange English test and interview preparation, organise application documents, follow up on payment, and provide pre-departure information. If we find during the process that this programme is not the right fit for your child, we will honestly suggest more suitable summer camp options.
